On Wednesday the 28th September Police responded to a report of a vulnerable missing man from Littlehampton.Volunteer search groups which included; Sussex Search and Rescue, Hampshire Search and Rescue, Surrey Search and Rescue, Lowland Search Dogs and North Neighbourhood Watch Search Volunteers and West Neighbourhood Watch Search Volunteers where all called to assist the Police. Some of the volunteer groups were already at the scene when the Search Advisor arrived. The Lowland Search Dogs were searching an area of forest and at 2200 hours the man was located. He was severely dehydrated and first aid was administered by a trained Sussex Search and Rescue volunteer in the first instance while an ambulance was called.I have no doubt that had the missing man remained in situ he would have become seriously ill and may not have lived. It is therefore with a sense of pride and deep admiration that I write to your respective groups to convey my thanks for the difficult job you do and the dedication and time you have given to us is both amazing and highly professional.I think we couldn't have managed without you and certainly would not have found our missing man when we did.
