We are always pleased to welcome new members to the Unit, either to the operational search team, or to help us out with essential maintenance and fundraising tasks. No previous experience is required as recruits undertake training and assessment - though to become an operational member you must have a high level of physical fitness and be confident in the outdoors. Once qualified, further specialist training is available in areas such as First Aid, Navigation, Tracking, and Bike Searching.

Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds. We have asked some of them to write a little bit about themselves, the roles that they fulfill in the Unit, and the sort of commitment that membership of the Unit entails. Click here to view.

If you are interested in becoming a member of Sussex Search and Rescue, please fill in our Expression of Interest form, available in acrobat PDF format below. We prefer where possible to receive these by email to the SusSAR Secretary.

If you are unable to send us your form by email then you can print and post them back to the unit at the address below, but please be aware that this will delay your form getting to us.

Once we have viewed your form, you will be considered for attendance at our next new member's evening where we will be able to tell you more about the unit and what membership entails.

If you are suitable for membership, then we will invite you to start attending our monthly training evenings as a probationary member. After a period of in-house training you will be considered for attendance at a residential training and assessment weekend at the UK Lowland Search Institute and after successful completion of this course you will become an operational member of SusSAR.
